Talking about voice on the internet

When my book on voice went live a couple of months ago, the reaction was crazy. I got a few amazing tweets from some of my favorite writers:

This is a fantastic post. All aspiring writers can benefit. https://t.co/8zcL3uvADk

@lifeandwriting @ChuckWendig @PatFlynn What a fantastic piece! (And not just because it includes me.) Great insight, original, thoughtful

And, even better, I got invites to be on some awesome podcasts. Those both went live this month so I wanted to share them with you.

One of my mentors and good friends Kevin Rogers had me break down his voice live on the air. You can check that out here. We also talk our favorite comedians, that time we were required to wear a suit, and how we accidentally absorb voices when we write. It was a super fun interview with tons of laughs.

Fabienne Raphael of Marketing to Crush Your Competitors invited me on for a chat about voice, writers block, and how I got my start in copy in 7th grade (it totally involves a boy). It felt like having a chat in my living room over coffee. Great conversation with a real pro. Listen in here.

In other news, I’ve been all over the place, speaking at some events and teaching chainsaw course (yes, I really do that). I update my email community on where I’ll be, so grab a copy of my book and stay in touch!

I’ve made it one of my missions to find that next generation of superstars…and one of the copywriters I am placing a big bet on is Abbey

After working with some of the best copywriters who have ever lived throughout my career, I came to the realization that it was not a “given” that there would be a next generation of copywriters who understood direct response like their predecessors. I’ve made it one of my missions to find that next generation of… Read more “I’ve made it one of my missions to find that next generation of superstars…and one of the copywriters I am placing a big bet on is Abbey”

Huge, ‘beyond expectation’ wins for some of the most famous names in our industry

Abbey Woodcock is one of my favorite copywriters – both to work with and recommend – for 3 reasons:

  1. She has a deep understanding of direct response marketing AND how it fits into modern mediums like social and email.
  2. She has a deep understanding of human psychology and how to speak to different markets… Read more “Huge, ‘beyond expectation’ wins for some of the most famous names in our industry”
